Accredited Chest Pain Center
St. Luke's received accreditation for our Chest Pain Center from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care (SCPC), an international organization dedicated to eliminating heart disease as the number one cause of death worldwide.
Expert heart care
To become an Accredited Chest Pain Center, St. Luke's was rigorously evaluated by the SCPC on our ability to assess, diagnose and treat patients who may be experiencing a heart attack. Patients who arrive at St. Luke's with heart attack symptoms are treated with a high level of expertise by professionals using processes that:
- Reduce the time from onset of symptoms to diagnosis and treatment
- Treat patients more quickly during the critical window of time when the integrity of the heart muscle can be preserved
- Monitor patients when it is not certain they are having a heart attack, which ensures they are not sent home too quickly or needlessly admitted to the hospital
The SCPC accredits hospitals emphasizing the importance of standardized diagnostic and treatment programs that provide more efficient and effective evaluation as well as more appropriate and rapid treatment of patients with chest pain and other heart attack symptoms. Accredited hospitals, such as
St. Luke's, serve as a point of entry into the healthcare system to evaluate and treat other medical problems and help promote healthier lifestyles to reduce the risk factors for heart attack.
