Why did you become a physician/provider?
This career has enabled me to combine two great passions of mine: caring for people and a pursuit of knowledge. Every day I am privileged to provide care/help to patients and their families, which is incredibly rewarding. I am also constantly learning new things in the field of medicine, whether that's encountering a rare disease or staying up-to-date on the latest research for evidence based practice.
What qualities best describe the care you provide your patients?
Caring, compassionate, good listener, respectful, earnest and knowledgeable.
Being a healthcare provider, what drives/motivates you each day?
I am motivated by my Christian faith "to love your neighbor as yourself" (Matthew 22:39). I want to use gifts that God has given me to help others.
What is the most important message you would like to share with your patients? What would you like your patients to know about you?
The most important message I want to share with my patients and their families is that I care about them and want to help them and provide the best care that I can. As a father of 5 children, I understand that parenting can be stressful, particularly when a child is sick. I want my patients and their families to know that about my previous experience. I have spent my entire career in the care of pediatric patients. Prior to this position, I worked at the University of Iowa Hospital for 13 years with the last 8 years in Pediatric Surgery.
