The Power of Music - Ungs' Playlist October 26, 2016

I reference music a lot in my posts, so I thought I would compile a few of our favorite songs.  Each song is meaningful to one of us in some way. Whether the dance moves in the video are easy to replicate or because the words are so darn powerful they bring tears to our eyes.  Music has a way of inspiring us; allowing us to feel and express our emotions that we may not have been able to without music. I think in our past lives my husband was a songwriter, Giada was a producer with a vision, Brody was a singer, and I was a background dancer!

Below are a few of our favorite songs and why they are.  They are also linked, so take a listen and enjoy!

Home – Blue October
If you only listen to one song, let it be this one! My brother-in-law sent this to Eric because he said when he heard it he thought of us.  And honestly, the first time I heard it I got emotional and still do every time I hear it.  This song now has a special place in my heart.  The other day Brody was in the car singing it out of nowhere without any music on. I snapped a video quick and shared it with my broth-in-law, Justin.

Better When I’m Dancin’ – Meaghan Trainor
This song is from the new Peanuts movie and it is super cute, clean fun. The animated video is adorable too.

Just The Way You Are – Bruno Mars
One night I was giving Giada a bath and I overheard Eric talking to Brody, ‘Come here Bro, I want you to listen to this song with me; it’s about Mom and Giada and how beautiful they are. We always have to remind them how beautiful they are, ok buddy?’  This song used to get Brody emotional too, but he’s gotten over the emotional part and just loves to sing it to his sister and me.  He acts it out and in fact, he has acted it out so much that Giada now does too.  It’s so sweet and Giada and I are so lucky to be treated so well and to be looked at with such love.

Sweet Pea – Amos Lee
We told my mom that we were excepting at an Amos Lee concert and it was there where our little sweet pea gained her nickname. My mom also purchased a cute onesie or a peapod.  We love Amos Lee’s voice and all of his songs.

Sweet Pea – Tommy Roe
This is Giada’s song that we sang a lot while I was pregnant. Brody knows all the words and loves to sing it. It’s an oldie, but a goodie.

Beautiful Boy – John Lennon
This is Brody’s song. At random times he’ll ask to listen to his song and Eric and I will sing it to him. He gets kind-of emotional during this song and likes to be held and or slow dance to it.  It really is a beautiful song.

7 years old – Lukas Graham
Brody loves this song. He stands up on the ottoman and belts it out. Brody thinks that he is in fact Lukas Graham as he sings it.

Brave – Sarah Bareilles
I love every word to this song. I think it is meaningful and impactful. The first time I heard it I wrote an email to my kids linking to this song so when they need a dose of bravery they can find it here.

Lazy Days – Bruno Mars
This song is so silly and playful!  It’s just some good ol’ fun and the video is hilarious.  We act it out while we sing it. I LOVE Bruno Mars.

Can’t Stop the Feeling – Justin Timberlake
Does this song even need a write-up?! This was our family song over the summer!

Uptown Funk - Bruno Mars
During Sunday dinner’s we used to listen to this song over and over again. All of us would dance in the living room. It’s not a new song, but it’s still a fun one.

Love Yourself - Justin Bieber
This song is easy to sing along with and the video is really neat too.

Earth from Outer Space – Michael Franti & Spearhead
Such an uplifting song and easy to sing along with, plus the message is really sweet. A lot of Michael Franti’s songs are good and sweet songs.

Better Together – Jack Johnson
Mom & Dad’s song – This is the song we danced to at our wedding and still is our song. This kids know it and when it comes on that means that Mom and Dad are dancing together!

Stressed Out – Twenty One Pilots
Brody’s big cousin Bela showed him this song, so since then he has loved it! He claims it as their song.  The song is in all good fun.
