Blank Children's Hospital

History

The House traveled statewide, transported by a core group of volunteers. In the Spring of 2003, after nine years of operation, it was decided that the original Fire Safety House was no longer usable for statewide travel. During the period 1994 - 2003 the Fire Safety House educated more than 35,000 children and 4,400 adults about fire prevention and home escape plans.

Fire Safety House 1994 - 2003

2005-2016 Fire Safety House:

Through a grant form the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and other grants and donations, Blank Children's Hospital was able to purchase a new Fire Safety House from Surrey Fire Safety House, a division of the Walters Group in Napoleon, Ohio. The new Fire Safety House was delivered to Blank Children's Hospital on September 16, 2005. Shortly after the arrival of the Fire Safety House, Blank Children's Hospital purchased a new tow vehicle from Karl Chevrolet in Ankeny, Iowa.

In the Fall of 2015, after ten years of operation, it was decided that the 2005 Fire Safety House was no longer usable for statewide travel. During it's ten year span the Fire Safety House reached more than 50,000 children and families throughout 77 counties in Iowa with valuable fire safety and severe weather safety lessons.
