Dr. Luong Banh Recognized as Guardian Angel
The Guardian Angel program gives patients and families the opportunity to make a donation in appreciation of a UnityPoint physician, team member, volunteer or department that made a difference in their health care experience. A recognition ceremony is held for every Guardian Angel donation - giving special honor to those who go above and beyond. With the help of the JRMC Foundation, these gifts help fund programs and equipment that add to the quality of care.
Peter Kenneth Meyer passed away June 7, 2017 at JRMC after a three-year battle with Multiple Myeloma cancer. Meyer's family wanted to do something special to recognize and thank an exceptional physician, so the family made a Guardian Angel donation to Dr. Banh.
Message from family:
"As Pete's family, we had such comfort in having providers we explicitly trusted and knew the doctors were providing the very best care for Pete. The minute Pete met Dr. Banh, he had so much respect for him. Dr. Banh took the time to visit with Pete and our family several times to have difficult end-of-life conversations. He was Pete's Guardian Angel at the end of his life because Dr. Banh did everything possible to make sure Pete's last wishes were met. He was empathetic, compassionate, and sincerely honest and had heart-to-heart conversations with Pete about his final days of care while he was capable of making these important decisions. Our family will always respect Dr. Banh for sharing in Pete's final days and guiding us through the process."
