Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques (MAT)

Pain is the body's call for attention, and MAT helps massage therapists listen before developing a treatment plan.

MAT is a form of manual therapy that uses scientific evidence about the body and brain to inform the practitioner's approach to musculoskeletal problems. Generally speaking, it relies on strategic deep tissue and muscle activation techniques for posture correction and pain relief.

From low-back and neck pain to stiff hips and headaches, a wide range of pain issues lead people to search for lasting relief. These techniques may help clients:

  • Relieve chronic pain contributing to weak posture
  • Release trapped nerves from tight muscles, joints and ligaments
  • Correct atrophy, weakness and muscle amnesia in head-forward postures
  • Address breathing disorders caused by a drooping ribcage
  • Lessen pain sensitivity through graded exposure assisted stretching techniques
  • Eliminate protective muscle guarding due to joint fixations Improve sleep by lowering sympathetic nervous system tone
  • Create dynamic, confident posture
  • Correct sports-related tendon and joint injuries
  • Enhance athletic performance through hands-on proprioceptive training
  • Change the brain's mind about pain through targeted home exercise advice
Physiokinetic Massage

This training system was created to correct the neurological dysfunctions and chronic pain issues that contribute to poor movement habits in people's everyday lives.

Physiokinetic training enables everyone to have a plan, teaching you how to correct common compensatory strain patterns that keep people in pain and dysfunction daily.

When this style of massage is combined with traditional massage, or with Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques, it gives new meaning to total body relaxation or total body reboot.

Tips to Enhance Your Visit

Punctuality
Please arrive five minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time to ensure that your treatment gets started promptly. A late start does not allow us to give you the full amount of time you are scheduled for, and we want to make sure we give you the wonderful treatment you have been expecting!
Cell Phones
To promote a truly relaxing environment, we ask that your cell phone and pager be turned off during your time with us.
Privacy
Your time with us is kept confidential. During all treatments, every effort is made to respect your modesty. We carefully drape you to ensure relaxation and privacy at all times. Please talk to your therapist about any concerns you may have.
Hydration
Please make sure to drink plenty of water before and after your session. How well your body responds to your treatment depends on how well hydrated you are. Maximize your results with plenty of H2O!
Payment
Payment is collected at the time of service. We accept cash, check, credit card and Allen Massage & Spa gift certificates. UnityPoint Health team members may also use payroll deduction. We currently do not accept any insurance but will provide you with a receipt to submit to your insurance company.
Cancellations
Your appointment time is reserved just for you. If you are unable to make your appointment, please contact us 24 hours prior to your scheduled time. There is a 50% cancellation fee with less than 24-hour notice for all services. No-shows will be billed the full price of the scheduled service. Please note that we do have voicemail, and leaving a message on a Saturday or Sunday will dismiss you from charges of cancellations for Monday.
