Trinity's Expert Team
The staff of the Trinity's Weight Management Team is one of the region's most experienced. They've received extensive specialized training that allows them to help patients make the right choices and succeed. Pre-screening assessment, education, nutritional counseling and postsurgical support are all important parts of our comprehensive program. More than 3,000 patients have benefited from Trinity's surgical weight loss services and programs.
Each of our highly qualified surgeons is board-certified, with significant experience in both general and bariatric surgery. They've performed both traditional and laparoscopic procedures at Trinity as independent practitioners who treat patients referred by the Trinity Weight Management Specialists.
Trinity Weight Management Multidisciplinary Team
James E. Schrier, MD is a board-certified general surgeon. He is a graduate of the University of Iowa, College of Medicine and completed his internship and residency at University of Iowa Hospitals. His clinical interests include Bariatric Surgery and Laparoscopic Surgery. Dr. Schrier serves as the Medical Director for the Trinity Bariatric Center.
Melinda M. Hass, MD is a board-certified general surgeon. She is a graduate of the University of Iowa, College of Medicine and completed her residency at Mayo Graduate School of Medicine. Her clinical interests include Bariatric Surgery, Reconstructive Surgery, Laparoscopic Colon Surgery, Breast Surgery, Abdominoplasty, Laparoscopic Gastric Band Placement and Upper and Lower Endoscopy.
Julie Pillard, Bariatric Coordinator at Trinity Weight Management Specialists, joined the team in September 2015. Julie graduated from Clarke University in Dubuque with her Master of Science in Nursing in 2011 and Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2009. She has a background in dialysis and post-operative care. Julie is eager to help patients learn how to live healthier lifestyles and is excited to watch them succeed.
Gary Brent Ludwig, PhD is a Licensed Psychologist who is on the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology. He completed his Internship in Professional Psychology at Utah State University Counseling Center. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Missouri in Kansas City in 1999. He is currently affiliated with Southpark Psychology, Ltd. in Moline. Dr. Ludwig is a consulting member of Trinity Bariatric Center's multi-disciplinary team. He provides pre-surgical psychological evaluations and provides on-going psychological care for patients undergoing bariatric surgery.
Amanda Motto, DO attended Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences College of Osteopathic Medicine for her medical education. She completed her residency with Trinity in the Family Practice Residency Program. As a family medicine physician, Dr. Motto focuses on healthcare for the entire family in her practice. Outside of the clinic, she enjoys friends, family, and attending sports events (especially Iowa Hawkeye events). Dr. Motto is a consulting member on our multidisciplinary team. She also provides care for our patients in her Bettendorf clinic.
Cindy Gast is a registered nurse who joined Trinity Weight Management Specialists in August 2013. Cindy is a graduate of Lutheran Hospital School for Nurses. She has previous experience working with our surgeons, caring for their general surgery and bariatric patients in an office setting. She is excited to be a part of the Bariatric team and share her clinical experience in assisting the patients in their journey to a healthier lifestyle.
Christy Finn, a registered and licensed dietitian, joined Trinity's Weight Management team in 2016. Christy completed her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics and internship at Iowa State University. Christy has experience with surgical weight loss, general weight loss, cancer related nutrition, and geriatrics. Christy enjoys helping people meet their nutrition and health goals and looks forward to assisting people with lifestyle changes.
