Biography

Megan completed undergraduate degrees in biological sciences and psychology at the University of Iowa. She earned an MS and PhD in counseling psychology at Colorado State University. Dr. Adams completed an internship with emphasis in neuropsychology at the Minneapolis Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) and acquired additional specialized training at Minneapolis VAMC as a postdoctoral fellow in neuropsychology and rehabilitation. She joined UnityPoint Health - St. Luke’s Hospital as an outpatient neuropsychologist in 2014 after seven years with HealthEast Care System in St. Paul, Minnesota. Dr. Adams is an Iowa licensed psychologist and health service provider in psychology. She is chief of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Psychology Section.  

Dr. Adams evaluates adult and older adult patients with cognitive deficits due to movement disorders, dementia, traumatic brain injury, stroke, mental illness, chemical dependency, and other conditions. She enjoys educating patients and families while guiding care to improve daily functioning and quality of life. Dr. Adams worked with an interdisciplinary group to standardize empirically-supported concussion care for Unity Point Health – Cedar Rapids and to collaborate with the Iowa Brain Injury Alliance on implementation of a community-based program for concussion education and management throughout the state. Dr. Adams has also worked to improve dementia surveillance in our primary care clinics. 

She previously served on the Leadership Board for the Alzheimer’s Association of East Central Iowa and continues to volunteer and advocate for them. She was also previously active with the Minnesota chapters of the Alzheimer’s Association and the National Parkinson’s Foundation. Dr. Adams is a member of the Elderly Consortium of Linn County.
