About This Provider
"I pursued a career in psychiatry after witnessing the need for care in the population with mental illness. I saw the need grow as I continued in my nursing career, and the pool of providers continuously decrease. I'm passionate about impacting the care of patients in a positive manner, and filling this need in our community."

Medical Interests
Johnathan has worked in several aspects of nursing in addition to holding a doctorate in psychiatry. He started his nursing career in correctional and psychiatric nursing, continued to rehab/neurospinal, then transitioned to Neurosurgical ICU, which combined to the Surgical Specialty ICU to include all surgeries candidates (cardiovascular surgery, thoracic, GI, etc.). The acute care aspect of his nursing has provided valuable experience when consulting services in psychiatry. He also has an understanding of lab values and medical aspects of patient care that can help in services to other providers in the hospital as well.

Medical Philosophy
Johnathan's patients describe him as a provider who listens to problems and cares about their feelings. He believes a vital part of his job is to listen, sympathize and collaborate with his patients. This is especially important in psychiatry because of the impact of mood and functioning, and the stigma of mental illness. He believes medications are only part of the equation of treatment and that a need exists to cultivate skills to improve the recovery of his patients.

Personal Interests
Jonathan enjoys spending time with his wife and in his free time enjoys staying as active as possible through weight training and participating in outdoor activities such as biking, hiking and walking his pocket beagles. .
