Complete Childbirth Services in Peoria, IL
The Wonder Center at UnityPoint Health - Methodist is the perfect place to welcome your wonderful new baby. Here we combine advanced technology and highly skilled professionals with tender loving care and personal attention to you and your needs. That's not just a promise, that's Methodist.
Room for You, Room for Your Family
Your entire birthing experience takes place in the comfort of a private LDR (labor-delivery-recovery) room. This beautiful, nurturing environment feels more like home than hospital. Your room offers a cozy sofa bed or recliner for your support person. Choose your favorite foods from our room service menu. Of course, state-of-the-art technology is there, too, tucked away out of sight until it's needed.
Your husband or support person is welcome to stay with you throughout labor and delivery if you wish. If you have other children, they may spend time with you during your birthing experience, or you may prefer they enjoy our comfortable family lounge (under adult supervision).
Personal Attention for You and Your Baby
After you give birth to your baby, you will stay in a private room on our nearby Women's Health unit for postpartum care. (You will receive care on this unit whether you have a vaginal or C-section delivery.) We encourage you to keep your baby in your room as much as possible, so our staff can support you as you learn to care for and feed your baby. The Well Baby Nursery is available if you need additional rest. We also have a specialized security and identification system in place to protect your newborn.
Our Team of Experts
Although nearly 2,000 "Wonder Babies" are born at Methodist each year, our team of healthcare professionals treats each birth as a unique experience. Our specially trained nurses are dedicated to helping you achieve a safe and positive birthing experience. After delivery, a lactation specialist is here to help you successfully breastfeed your baby. The Wonder Center is also staffed by OB hospitalists 24/7. These experienced obstetricians oversee your labor until your personal doctor arrives.
If there are special concerns with your pregnancy, such as diabetes or a family history of certain birth defects, your doctor may consult with our UnityPoint Clinic perinatologist, Dr. Charles Egley. (A perinatologist is a physician who specializes in the management of high-risk pregnancies.) High-tech delivery rooms are ready if you have a multiple, complicated or C-section birth.
Special Care for Your Baby
Our certified Level II Neonatal Unit cares for at-risk babies greater than 32 weeks gestation. A neonatologist-a doctor who specializes in the care of newborns-is available if your baby should develop any problems. The neonatologist may be present at C-section births and any other delivery that involves special concerns for the health of the baby. On the rare occasions that a baby requires ventilator care, the baby will be transferred to an appropriate Level III facility.
Hours: 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. (Hours are subject to change.)
New moms deserve special attention. That's why guests in our state-of-the-art birthing facility can order meals whenever they're hungry! A full-service menu includes everything from delicious main entrees to sweet desserts and snacks for munching. Dads love it, too!
