Child Life Program Receives Cuddles for Kids Donation

The Child Life Program at UnityPoint Health received a donation of 165 teddy bears and stuffed animals from Cuddles for Kids. Taylor Larson, founder of Cuddles for Kids, hosted a Teddy Bear toss at the Peoria Chiefs baseball game on June 25th.

Larson founded Cuddles for Kids because of her experience as a child 10 years ago and received non-profit status two years ago.

“I was a patient in the hospital as a kid. I received gifts like teddy bears and they made me so happy. I wanted to do the same for another kid in the hospital and it just grew from there,” Larson says.

The Child Life Program offers educational, emotional, and psychological support to Pediatric patients and their families visiting the hospital for care.

“This is an incredibly meaningful donation for us. Our team relies on the support of generous donors to help us with the tools and resources used to help ease stress and anxiety in our pediatric patients receiving a wide variety of services and care,” says Ashley Gordon, Certified Child Life Specialist.

The teddy bears and stuffed animals will be used as a comfort object by the patients and are used by the Child Life Specialists for a hands-on approach to help demonstrate the steps of a procedure to a patient and their families.
