Cosmetic Vein Care (Sclerotherapy)
Sclerotherapy is used to treat visible veins, typically found on the face, legs, thighs or ankles. Spider veins generally increase both in number and visibility with age.
If visible veins are making you self-conscious, sclerotherapy is a relatively safe, painless method for erasing unwanted spider veins from your skin. Typically, patients experience no downtime and can resume work and most normal activities immediately. Multiple treatments may be necessary to erase the veins completely.
Sclerotherapy can be used to treat both varicose and spider veins. A tiny needle is used to inject a chemical directly into the vein causing it to collapse, seal shut, and be reabsorbed into the body.
Multiple treatments may be necessary to erase the veins completely. The number can vary depending on the number, size and type of veins being treated. Typically, a patient will receive several injections during each treatment session.
Prescription compression stockings will need to be worn for several days after treatment. Patients typically experience some bruising or discoloration after treatment. We recommend that strenuous exercise be avoided for a few days after treatment. Avoid UV exposure for at least two weeks after your treatment.
