Podiatric Surgical Residency Program - Trinity Regional Medical Center

Message from the Program Director

Trinity Regional Medical Center Podiatric Surgical Residency emphasizes comprehensive patient care experience from a new patient encounter through discharge. The Podiatric Surgical Residency Program received its most recent approval in 2019 as a PMSR/RRA. Trinity Regional Medical Center is a 50 bed not-for-profit acute care facility with a Level 3 Trauma Center. The medical staff is comprised of family medicine, internal medicine, pulmonology/critical care, cardiology, cardiac surgery, general and vascular surgery, orthopedics, podiatric surgery, head and neck surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, anesthesia, pathology, pediatrics, psychiatry, interventional radiology and emergency medicine.

Ongoing experiences include inpatient and outpatient surgical management, adult and pediatric reconstruction, trauma call, diabetic limb salvage, and extensive foot and ankle clinic experience, including practice management in addition to involvement with specialty surgery as part of their rotations. Residents can expect involvement in 750 podiatric surgical cases and average 1500 logged procedures. Approximately 40% of the cases logged are for reconstructive rearfoot and ankle. Over 15,000 podiatric outpatient visits occur yearly and the resident can expect extensive exposure and responsibility in other medical and surgical specialties at the hospital. The residents are fully integrated and welcomed into the hospital care system and the clinic environment at UnityPoint Clinic.

Residents are provided with a competitive stipend, health, life and malpractice coverage, vacation, sick leave, and CME allowance. Applicants and those wanting to learn more about our program are encouraged to visit.

Testimonial
"It is my opinion that a student would be hard pressed to find a more well-rounded and fulfilling externship or residency than at UnityPoint Health - Trinity.

There is a wide variety of rearfoot and forefoot reconstructive surgery exposure, including pre and post operative clinic care, excellent trauma experiences and pediatric cases as well.

I appreciate the close working relationships the residents develop with the attendings, which allow for more comprehensive case discussions and ongoing dialogue throughout the residency training."
