"Being so close to home was what made my experience better."

                                                         Angie Gravel, Wendt Center patient

Angie Gravel of Dubuque will tell you that there's nothing convenient about cancer, especially when you're working and raising a 4-year-old. Fortunately, Angie was able to find the care she needed, close to home.

The Wendt Regional Cancer Center is the only provider of radiation therapy in the Dubuque area, serving the Tri-State area. At Wendt, Angie received excellent cancer care along with the one-on-one attention and support she needed. And being close to home meant Angie only missed one day of work throughout her treatment.

About the Wendt Center:

The Wendt Center was built in 1987 under the direction of Dr. Thomas Lally.  In this outpatient center, 99 percent of patients receive treatments and return home on the same day. Throughout the course of treatment, patients rely on our exceptional health care team of physicians, nurses, radiation therapists, dosimetrists, radiation physicists, genetic counselors, and secretaries, who all work together to provide individualized care.

Finley provides a comprehensive cancer care program with a variety of ancillary services. Many things can add to quality cancer care, from the skills needed to handle the most difficult cases and treatments, to the extra concern and care given to patients' feelings and fears during this trying time. Through genetic counseling, screenings and additional medical management options, the Wendt Regional Cancer Center helps patients gain a better understanding of their risk for developing cancer. Our Nurse Navigator acts as the bridge between patients and their medical team with the goal of doing everything possible to help alleviate the anxiety that comes so quickly with a cancer diagnosis. And programs such as our Tumor Conferencepain management, palliative care and various support groups allow patients to stay ahead of their diagnosis – receiving not only the best care, but the best comfort as well.
