Tractor Ride Benefiting NICU Equipment Needs

"Playing for Change," a tractor ride that will travel across all of Iowa in June 2013 to benefit Variety Intensive Care Neonatal Unit (NICU) equipment needs at Blank Children's Hospital, will kick off Monday, June 17, in Onawa and end Saturday, June 22, in Dubuque.

Dick Barkema, a Klemme man, and country music singer Tom Wurth came up with the idea for the event in 2012. "It's all about the kids," Barkema said. The two decided to do something to raise money for Blank Children's Hospital after touring and meeting with hospital officials.

The route will follow "old Highway 20" and travel through cities including Fort Dodge and Iowa Falls. Wurth will perform at each overnight stop along the way, ending with a big concert in Dubuque.

Wurth also put together a video, which incorporates pictures of Blank Children's Hospital with his new single, "To Love Somebody." Watch it here.

The cost to ride will be $50 with donations of any amount accepted as well. All proceeds will go to Blank Children's Hospital.
