For the last 20 years my knee has hurt, but right now, I'm not in pain at all. I had total knee replacement surgery at Methodist West and I felt better instantly. So good in fact, I was walking hours after surgery and even went home from the hospital the very next day.

Before my surgery, I would come home from work and just want to lie down. I wasn't motivated to do anything. You don't even realize it, but you change the way you live when you're dealing with this kind of pain. You make adjustments. You sacrifice. You trade this for that. Now that I've had my surgery, my life is so much fuller. It's not only that I can do more things, but that I want to do more things. Everything actually.

I would tell anyone needing surgery such as this to go for it. If I had to, I do it again in a heartbeat. Actually, I had my rotator cuff repaired just two weeks following my knee surgery. The procedure, the recovery, it went just as smooth.

The thing is they take great care of you at Methodist West, really great care of you. My surgeon from Des Moines Orthopaedic Surgeons, Dr. Sullivan, comes highly recommended. Ask me, and he's one of the best. They all were, my nurses, patient care facilitator, everyone.

I like to fish. I like to bowl. Now, I'm even riding my bike again after 30 years. My longest ride to date has been 27 miles. I think, in fact, I've racked up about 135 miles total on my bike since the surgery six months ago. And it's all thanks to the excellent care I received at Methodist West. To live life more fully, to be pain free, I couldn't ask for anything better."
