Inpatient Palliative Care
Inpatient Palliative Care works with patients who have been admitted
into UnityPoint Health - Des Moines hospitals. Upon receiving the doctor's order and after
the consultation meeting, the Palliative Care team works with the nurses
and other medical personnel on your floor to make sure you are
receiving the care outlined in your plan.
One of the goals of Inpatient Palliative Care is to minimize the amount of
time spent in the hospital setting and maximize the results while you
are there. Once you have been admitted into Palliative Care, we continue
to follow you each time you are in the hospital.
If you are readmitted to the hospital, we strive to cut down on
unnecessary tests that would be performed and questions that might be asked by those who are
unaware of your previous history. Because the Palliative Care team knows you, we can facilitate communication to the staff in a timely manner.
The Inpatient Palliative Care team plans to see you each time you
enter the hospital and will always make sure your needs and goals come
