Glen Spence, a 67-year-old, Carlisle, resident, never experienced trouble with his neck before. So when Glen began noticing an ache in his upper body, he assumed it was old age, not a displaced cervical disc, causing his pain.
"I work on and off at the gas station here in Carlisle servicing vehicles," Glen said. "I do a lot of tire work, lifting them to put them on cars and machines, but I believed my pain was my age catching up to me."
But instead of subsiding after a couple days, Glen's pain remained persistent.
"I was having trouble sleeping," Glen said. "I couldn't sleep on my left side, and sometimes my left arm would go numb from my elbow to my fingers. I noticed pain while driving too. I never knew when the pain would come on."
Glen finally decided to seek help when his sleeping difficulties continued and pain pills did not help. His wife also urged him to go see someone.
Glen trusted Dr. David Hatfield at Des Moines Orthopaedic Surgeons (DMOS) to perform the surgery needed to correct his disc. Glen was impressed by the quality treatment and care he received.
"You couldn't ask for a better doctor than Dr. Hatfield," Glen said. "He would come in, sit down and talk with my family like he was family. Some of my family didn't even realize he was my doctor!"
Now, thanks to Dr. Hatfield and the DMOS staff, Glen is back to his normal routine without any pain whatsoever.
"I would recommend Dr. Hatfield to anyone."
