Transitional Year Residency Program | UnityPoint Health - Des Moines

Message from the Director

Steven R. Craig MD

Welcome to the Transitional Year Residency Program at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

The program was established in 1991 and more than 90 residents have completed training in the program as of 2017. The program is fully accredited and we train four residents per year. Our residents go on to complete subsequent categorical residency training at top programs in specialties such as anesthesiology, dermatology, diagnostic radiology, ophthalmology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, and radiation oncology.

Our program has developed a solid reputation for providing excellent teaching, superb clinical training, and superior resident achievement. Surveys of our graduates and of the categorical program directors who subsequently train our graduates confirm the outstanding training available here. I hope you find the many resources on this website helpful, but please don't hesitate to contact us with your questions or comments.

Steven R. Craig, M.D.
