College Student Volunteer
Volunteers at Iowa Methodist, Blank Children's Hospital and Iowa Lutheran make a difference for our patients, families and staff. College students are on-boarded into our volunteer program three times per year - fall semester, spring semester and summer (must commit to 10 weeks during summer).
College students volunteering during the school year need to meet the following requirements:
- Currently enrolled in college.
- Be 18 years of age or older.
- Willing to commit to volunteering for a minimum of 2 to 4 hours once per week.
- Must volunteer for two semesters (Example: summer and fall, fall and spring, spring and summer).
- Summer volunteering college students must be available to commit to 10-weeks of the summer.
- Must complete an application, health screening, attend an orientation/placement meeting and provide references.
- Must clear a criminal background check.
College Volunteer Opportunities
Methodist West Hospital
We will be accepting applications for college students beginning March 10th for summer placements. Volunteers must be willing to commit to 10 weeks. Shifts for the Methodist West Hospital are in the Emergency Department. Shifts are once a week from 4-7 p.m. or 7-10 p.m. Beginning March 10th, please fill out the Methodist West application to the left of this page. Click here to apply. Iowa Methodist Medical Center and Blank Children's Hospital
We are now accepting applications for our 10-week summer program. A limited number of applications will be accepted. Please carefully consider whether you will be able to commit to 10 weeks of volunteering between June and August before completing the application. As space is limited, applications and interviews will be accepted and conducted on a first come, first served basis.
In order to participate in the Iowa Lutheran Hospital College Emergency Department Volunteer Program the following two training sessions are mandatory (Sorry, no exceptions!):
Lutheran Hospital Orientation: Friday, May 19, 12:30 pm – 2:30 pm
Emergency Department Simulation Lab: Wednesday, May 31, 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm
Available shifts are from 11 am-2 pm, 2 pm-5 pm, 5 pm-8 pm, and 8 pm-11 pm each day of the week.
