UnityPoint Health Announces Winner of Imagine the Amazing Contest

UnityPoint Health held an online contest for one school to win $25,000 in 2018.

UnityPoint Health gave thousands of schools the chance to Imagine the Amazing and win $25,000 in a back-to-school online voting contest. One school rose above the rest. Annawan Grade School in Annawan, IL rallied supporters to bring in over 196,000 votes in just the 2-week span of the contest.

“Winning this contest shows the incredible support we have in our community for our kids," Wayne Brau, Annawan Grade School principal says. "I have so much gratitude for all those who helped organize and publicize and, of course, all those who took time to vote. We're so thankful to UnityPoint Health for investing in the future of our community and kids. The money will be used to create a new and safe playground for all our current and future students to enjoy."

Annawan Grade School will receive a special celebration at an assembly on October 23.  Details of the celebration are still being determined.

Ten additional schools won runner-up prizes of $1,000. They include:

  • Don Bosco H.S., Gilbertville, IA
  • Louisa-Muscatine H.S., Letts, IA
  • Jordan Catholic School, Rock Island, IL
  • South Tama County H.S., Tama, IA
  • Seton Catholic School, Moline, IL
  • Immaculate Conception School, Charles City, IA
  • Nuestro Mundo, Monona, WI
  • Highland Elementary, Riverside, IA
  • Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Elementary, Harley, IA
  • Mt Olive Lutheran School, Des Moines, IA

The Imagine the Amazing online voting contest ran from September 17 through September 30. In all, over 1.6 million votes were cast throughout the duration of the contest. More than 2,600 K-12 nonprofit schools within the 99 counties of Iowa and the primary counties served by UnityPoint Health in Illinois, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin were eligible to participate.

“UnityPoint Health is excited to see how all the winning schools will use this money to help create a brighter tomorrow for kids and their communities,” Kevin Vermeer, president and CEO of UnityPoint Health, says. “We know there’s no better way to help grow healthy communities than to give the youngest citizens the tools they need to do great things and achieve their dreams.”

This is the first time UnityPoint Health has run a contest of this sort during the back-to-school season.
