Donor Recognition & Thanks
Annual gifts, memorials and honor gifts of $1,000 or more to any one hospital are recognized on the hospital's donor wall during the year following the gift. Donors contributing $1,000+ in a calendar year are invited to the hospital's annual donor event normally held in the spring. Donors giving $100 or more are listed in the UnityPoint Health Foundation's Donor Journal. In addition, donors giving between up to $99 are recognized on the Foundation's website.
Donors contributing $10,000 or more to any one hospital are permanently recognized in the cumulative giving section of that hospital's donor wall. These donors who reach the are also invited to the specific hospital's annual donor recognition event. Cumulative giving includes all gifts during a donor's lifetime plus bequests or other planned gifts. These giving levels range from $10,000 to over $5,000,000. Each time a donor reaches a new giving level there is special recognition at the event in addition to a new plaque.
When a donor's combined giving to one or more of the UnityPoint Health - Des Moines hospitals reaches $50,000 the donor is recognized on the Foundation's donor wall. Donors reaching the $50,000 level are invited to the annual Donors of Distinction Event held during the fall annually. This event brings together individuals who have been supporting the hospitals over the years. The program for the evening focuses on the latest advances in medicine. Attendees are able to interact and ask questions of the UnityPoint Health - Des Moines staff and board leadership and the many physicians attending the event.
Estate & Future Planned Gifts
Estate and future planned gifts continue to play a large role in the overall philanthropic support of UnityPoint Health - Des Moines. Individuals who have included Foundation or one of the hospitals supported by the Foundation are recognized with an individual plaque on the donor wall(s) for the hospital that will ultimately receive their gift.
Individuals who have made a bequest or other future gifts are encouraged to let the Foundation know about the gift. We want to make sure the gift will be used as you have intended as well as show our appreciation.
Estate and future planned gifts include: wills, trusts, charitable trusts, gift annuities, life estates, life insurance, charitable lead trusts as well as other planned gifts. When the proceeds from the estate/future planned gift are received, they are added to the donor's other (lifetime) gifts and are permanently recognized in the cumulative giving section if the total of all gifts reaches $10,000 to one hospital. If the total giving reaches $50,000 the donor is recognized on one or more hospital donor wall and also on the overall Foundation donor wall.
Naming opportunities at the hospitals normally start in the range of $15,000 to $50,000 depending upon the hospital and the area to be named. For more information on naming opportunities, check the individual hospital information below or contact the Foundation at 515-241-6304.
After Your Gift: Receipts and Acknowledgments
The UnityPoint Health Foundation deposits all checks promptly and will send an acknowledgement for your gift and a receipt for your tax records for each hospital or program you support. Gifts of securities are followed by a formal acknowledgement and receipt. For online gifts paid via credit card, an email confirming your gift is sent immediately, followed by your official tax receipt and acknowledgement.
While the IRS requires a receipt for all charitable contributions of $250 or more, the Foundation sends receipts for gifts of all amounts.
