Why did you become a physician/provider?

I grew up in a small town, and was taught small town family values. This included using gifts I had been given in a manner to help those around me. At a very young age, I decided that I had been given skills such as passion for learning and determination which made medicine in a small community my ideal calling.

What qualities best describe the care you provide to your patients?

I provide personalized, compassionate care to all my patients. I strive to have all my patients feel that they have not only a physician but a confidant and an advocate to partner with them to achieve what they would consider to be good health.

What motivates you each day?

I am driven by the knowledge that through my education, I have been gifted with the ability to help those around me as well as the opportunity to educate my community to enable them to take control of their own health. I come from a family of teachers, and I view patient education as a primary focus each and every day.

What is the most important message you would like to share with your patients? What would you like your patients to know about you?

It is my goal that my patient’s will understand that I am motivated by a desire to serve a community. I want for them to take control of their own health and seek education and counseling on how this may be achieved.

Fun facts:

I grew up in Cascade. Earned money in medical school by singing at weddings and teaching piano and voice lessons. Taught myself how to crochet mainly because my family doctor told me that’s what she did during medical school to relieve stress, now I enjoy crocheting afghans for friends and family members. I led a teen choir while in medical school as well as directing the choir at DMU.
