Team Member Shirley Philipp celebrates 50 Years at St. Luke's
Team members in the Lab celebrated Shirley Philipp's 50th anniversary working at St. Luke’s.
She has spent all 50 years working in the lab. Shirley started working in the lab on August 7, 1967 in Glass Washing.
She was asked if she would like to complete the Histology training program and thought why not give it a try. At 19 years old, three months into her year-long training, Shirley was asked if she would like to become the Histology supervisor.
When asked about the biggest changes she has seen over the last 50 years she said that moving from the first floor to the basement is probably the biggest.
When she started there were only two Histo Techs and two Pathologists. Today we have eight Histo Techs and six Pathologists. Automation has also changed a lot over the past 50 years, most of the process were manual versus today most are automated. Shirley also remembers the days of being able to eat and drink in the lab.
Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to St. Luke’s over the past 50 years!
